A series of cold fronts push northwards over the country today bringing in some cold weather, rain or showers for most and snow in the ranges. More details below.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty Dry at first then showers push in late morning as southwesterlies freshen, showers ease back during the afternoon with sunny spells breaking through. Bay Of Plenty has a mainly dry day bar the chance of a shower early afternoon as a front passes over.
Highs: 14 – 16
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
There may be dry areas in the morning then showers increasing from midday as westerly quarter winds freshen, showers ease in the evening. Late snow flurries possible about the Central Plateau to 800m.
Highs: 8 – 15
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, showers south of Napier late afternoon as northwesterlies change southwest. A few showers may reach further north later in the evening otherwise staying dry.
Highs: 15 – 18
Wellington
Mostly sunny, late afternoon showers as northwesterlies change southerly. Showers clear overnight.
Highs: 13 – 14
Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, Marlborough may see a shower later in the day. Westerlies tend southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 13 – 15
Canterbury
Dry at first with high cloud then during the morning a blustery southwest change moves northwards bringing some rain, easing to showers reasonably promptly then showers clear in the evening as southwesterlies die out. Snow may fall to about 600m, perhaps a touch lower on Banks Peninsula. Cold overnight especially inland.
Highs: 8 – 13
West Coast
Morning rain eases to showers, drying up in the evening for South Westland, rain overnight for Fiordland. Snow to 500m, 300m for Fiordland. Fresh southwesterlies.
Highs: 10 – 12
Southland & Otago
Rain, easing to showers in the evening for Southland. Otago has morning rain then occasional showers, drying out in the evening. Snow may fall as low as 200 or 100m. Fresh west to southwesterly winds, gales about the coast.
Highs: 7 – 9
