High pressure brings settled weather to most of New Zealand today, there are a few showers still for the eastern North Island and in the far south. Afternoon showers develop for the upper North Island and eastern South Island, some may be heavy with thunder.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Chance of a fog patch morning and night, sunny spells otherwise. An isolated shower or two in the afternoon / early evening. Light southeasterlies tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 21 – 25
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny, some afternoon cloud. Skies may be a bit cloudier during the day closer to the eastern ranges (Central Plateau for e.g.) with the chance of a shower, any showers clear evening. Light southeasterlies tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 19 – 22
Eastern North Island
Occasional showers, perhaps some rain north of Napier, clearing in the evening. Wairarapa should break to sun in the afternoon. Southeasterlies ease gradually tending northeast.
Highs: 18 – 21
Wellington
Any early cloud clears then mostly sunny, light northeasterlies.
Highs: 21 – 24
Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, easterlies for Marlborough, afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 20 – 24
Canterbury
Mostly sunny with coastal morning cloud clearing, high cloud develops from afternoon. Isolated showers develop inland late afternoon / evening, some of these may become heavy with thunderstorms (especially South Canterbury), clearing at night. East to northeasterly winds, dying out later in the day.
Highs: 19 – 28
West Coast
Mostly sunny, morning fog for Buller, some cloud developing from afternoon, winds from the southwest. Fiordland has showers, turning to rain late afternoon, winds from the northwest.
Highs: 18 – 25
Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy, showers afternoon and evening for Southland, coastal Otago may pick up on a shower from afternoon too. Northwesterlies for most but winds tend northeast for coastal Otago.
Highs: 21 – 27
