Anticyclonic weather today for the most part about the country but still plenty of cloud about, easterly winds in the east and westerlies in the west. A weak front delivers a few showers or areas of rain to some North Island regions. In the South Island conditions are mainly dry, a front moving in quickly from the Tasman Sea brings rain to the West Coast later in the day.

Cloudy spells with a few sunny areas about, west to northwest breezes.
High: 20-21
Auckland
Cloudy with westerly breezes, the odd shower about mainly afternoon.
High: 19
Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Morning rain eases to the odd shower, westerly winds. About the Bay Of Plenty expect morning showers to clear and a few sunny spells even peak through in the afternoon, westerlies there also.

Eastern North Island
Mainly cloudy with the odd shower, southerlies in the morning tend northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-18
Western North Island
Morning rain eases to the odd shower, south of Wanganui skies may become mainly dry from afternoon. Westerly winds.

Wellington
Sunny spells with southeasterly breezes, cloud thickens late afternoon onwards as winds tend northerly. A few late spots of evening rain are possible.

Nelson
Sunny with light winds, cloud increases in the afternoon as winds tend northerly. Late evening rain.

Marlborough
Sunny spells and some cloud, light winds tend northerly in the afternoon. High cloud thickens afternoon onwards. Expect some rain about western parts of Marlborough and the Sounds from evening.

Canterbury
Cloudy areas and afternoon sunny spells, northeasterly winds freshen from morning becoming brisk in the afternoon along the coast. Overnight spots of rain possible especially in the west.

West Coast
Cloud increases in the morning to become cloudy by midday, northerly winds. Evening drizzle then overnight rain.
High: 15
Coastal Otago
Sunny spells with northeasterlies freshening from morning, brisk in the afternoon. High cloud thickens later in the evening.
Highs: 12-13
Central Otago
Sunny with light winds, evening high cloud thickens as winds tend northerly. A few spots of rain move in from the west overnight.
Highs: 17-18
Southland
Early morning cloud clears to a mostly sunny day, light westerlies tend southerly in the afternoon. High cloud thickens in the evening.
