A front approaches the far south of the South Island today while a northerly airflow builds ahead of it over the rest of New Zealand. Dry sunny weather is expected for most although skies will be cloudy on the West Coast of the South Island with the odd shower, showers move into Southland and Otago late afternoon with a southwest change.

Upper North Island

Northeasterly breezes perhaps a little brisk at times. Cloudy periods with some sun from time to time, mainly in the afternoon. About Northland skies may be mostly cloudy and the odd light shower is possible in the east and far north of the district.
HIGHS: 24-26, high 20’s out east.

Lower North Island

Mostly sunny with some cloud, north to northeast breezes. Northwesterlies pick up about Wellington in the afternoon and skies may be mostly cloudy there.
HIGHS: 21-24 in the west, 26-28 out east

Upper South Island

Cloudy on the West Coast and in Nelson with northerlies, the odd shower at times too. Mostly sunny on the east coast with light winds picking up from the northwest in the afternoon, winds change southerly about Canterbury later in the evening with some cloud.
HIGHS: 19-22 on the West Coast and in Nelson, 27-31 out east.

Lower South Island

Northwesterly breezes with sunny weather and some high cloud, winds change southwest late afternoon or early evening bringing showers to Southland and Otago. The odd shower about Fiordland turns to rain in the afternoon, northerlies increase.
HIGHS: 22-25, high 20’s for eastern areas
