For many there will be plenty of cloud about this morning however sunny breaks will appear for most by afternoon, expect sea breezes in coastal areas. Late afternoon watch for inland showers about the upper South Island and in the North Island, North Island showers may turn heavy and thundery later today.

Upper North Island

Cloudy areas this morning however sun gradually breaking through for a mostly sunny afternoon, expect north to northeasterly breezes. A few isolated showers may get going later this afternoon about the Waikato and inland Bay Of Plenty, for southern Waikato and inland Bay Of Plenty showers may turn heavy and thundery this evening then easing overnight. Cloudy areas in Gisborne with sunny breaks this afternoon, easterly breezes.
HIGHS: 20-23.

Lower North Island

Mostly sunny in the west today with some cloud, light winds. Cloudy areas this morning about Wellington and in the east, sunny areas breaking through in the afternoon mainly about Wellington. East to northeast breezes pick up a little about Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay after midday. About the Central North Island and perhaps the Manawatu, isolated showers develop later this afternoon and they may become heavy and thundery then easing overnight.
HIGHS: 18-19 about Wellington and along the east coast. 20-23 elsewhere.

Upper South Island

Mostly sunny on the West Coast and about Nelson with light winds, afternoon sea breezes. Morning cloud breaking to a mostly sunny afternoon in the east, sea breezes after midday and for inland areas a few isolated showers may get going later this afternoon then clearing at night.
HIGHS: 18 on the West Coast, 21 in Nelson. 17-20 in Canterbury and Marlborough.

Lower South Island

Clear on the West Coast with light winds, afternoon sea breezes. Cloudy to start this morning elsewhere however sunny breaks develop this afternoon particularly inland. Winds will be light tending southerly or southwest for most, northeast breezes about coastal North Otago.
HIGHS: 16-17. Low 20’s inland.
