A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, potentially becoming unstable for Buller and some parts of the upper North Island this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells and isolated showers, especially in the afternoon then easing in the evening. Isolated showers may become heavy in spots with thunder for southern parts of Auckland and the Waikato during the afternoon. Showers not easing about the Bay Of Plenty till overnight. West to southwesterly winds for Northland and Auckland, light winds elsewhere.
Highs: 19-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Some morning cloud then mostly sunny. Isolated showers develop in the afternoon from Taranaki across to the Central North Island then clearing later in the evening. South to southeast winds.
Highs: 18-22

Eastern North Island

Cloud increases in the morning bringing the odd shower, many long dry periods also. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-21

Wellington

Morning showers clear, cloud breaks to sunny spells in the afternoon. Breezy southerly winds.
High: 15-16

Marlborough & Nelson

A mostly cloudy day, the odd shower for Nelson at times then clearing in the evening. Southeasterlies for Marlborough, light winds tend northerly in the afternoon for Nelson.
Highs: 17-20

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, some sun may break through at times from afternoon. South to southwesterly winds, easing later in the evening.
Highs: 13-15

West Coast

Mostly sunny with light winds, tending onshore in the afternoon. Isolated showers develop for Buller in the afternoon, some may become heavy with a chance of thunderstorms then clearing at night.
Highs: 19-21

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud clears then mostly sunny, south to southwesterly winds die out later in the evening.
Highs: 13-18
