A cold west to southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas and showers, especially afternoon onwards where some may be heavy then easing at night. Gusty westerlies tend southwest after midday.
Highs: 14-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers, some may be heavy at times from afternoon. Snow lowers overnight to 400m although at the same time precipitation rates ease also. Fresh blustery westerlies, strong about the coast.
Highs: 9-13

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, breezy westerlies. Later in the evening a few showers move into Wairarapa as winds tend southwest.
Highs: 16-19

Wellington
Sunny areas, evening showers as northwesterly winds change gusty southwest. Showers clear overnight.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, some high cloud. A few showers move into Nelson from midday as northwesterlies tend fresh westerly. Late afternoon or evening northwesterlies change fresh southwest about Marlborough bringing some cloud and a shower or two then clearing at night.
Highs: 13-15

Canterbury
Morning sun, afternoon showers possibly heavy with hail as a southwest change moves through then clearing at night. Snow lowers to 400m in the evening before clearing overnight.
Highs: 10-13

West Coast
Showers, some may be heavy with small hail then clearing later in the evening. Snow about the ranges to 600m lowering to 400m by evening before clearing. Southwesterlies freshen late morning.
Highs: 8-10

Southland & Otago
Showers, some may be heavy with hail. Snow flurries to 400m, possibly lowering to 200m for a time overnight. Otago may be dry to start before showers move in late morning. Cold west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 7-9
