A subtropical low brings rain to the North Island today, this rain slinks southwards over the South Island from afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning rain with heavy falls possible about Auckland, Waikato and Bay Of Plenty then easing to showers. Showers for Northland, becoming heavy from afternoon then easing in the evening. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy, rain about Taranaki spreads elsewhere by midday. Rain may become heavy for a time in the afternoon then easing. Rain picking up again about Taranaki in the evening. Easterlies.
Highs: 12-17

Eastern North Island
Rain, becoming patchy in the afternoon. Breezy east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Wellington
Rain develops late morning, easing to showers late afternoon. Easterlies.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Drizzle then rain develops towards midday, rain may ease in the evening. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury
Cloudy, the odd drizzle patch about Banks Peninsula / Christchurch then spreading elsewhere in the afternoon. Late afternoon or evening rain moves into most areas. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-12

West Coast
Mostly cloudy skies, the odd shower about Buller then scattered rain / showers spreading into most of North Westland in the afternoon. South to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Otago
Plenty of high cloud, some sun possible at times. Cloud thickens and lowers about Otago from afternoon bringing a risk of drizzle, there may be some overnight rain for north / coastal Otago. Light winds, northeasterlies for coastal Otago.
Highs: 12-13
