A cold southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, easing for eastern regions in the afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning showers ease becoming few and far between as northwest winds change fresh southwest. Sunny areas gradually increase.
Highs: 17-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers, some may be heavy with small hail then easing from afternoon and clearing in the evening. Fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong about the Taranaki coast.
Highs: 12-16

Eastern North Island
A few morning spots of rain then becoming mostly sunny after midday, about the Wairarapa however a few showers move through in the afternoon. Fresh west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-20

Wellington
A few early showers then again in the afternoon, sunny spells otherwise with breezy westerly winds.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, chance of a brief shower in the afternoon as westerlies tend a little more southwest for a time otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 14-17

Canterbury
Any morning showers clear (mainly coastal) then mostly sunny, southwesterlies die out around midday.
Highs: 14-16

West Coast
A few showers and sunny spells, Buller sees some morning rain ease. Cool southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago
A few showers about Southland, especially afternoon and evening. Winds gusty from the west. Otago has mostly sunny weather then late afternoon or evening there is the chance of a shower or two, west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-13
