A ridge lies over the South Island today while a southeasterly airflow sits over the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Any morning showers clear then there may be a few sunny areas break through, plenty of high cloud for most for the rest of the day. South to southwesterly winds tend southeast later in the day.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A few morning showers clear then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-20
 
Eastern North Island
Winds change southerly early in the morning bringing mostly cloudy skies, the odd light shower clears in the evening. Gisborne could see early rain clearing, then some high cloud with northwest winds before a late morning southerly change and drizzle.
Highs: 19-20
 
Wellington
Sunny areas increase from morning, mainly sunny by afternoon. Southerly winds die out later on.
High: 16
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Any morning cloud clears to mostly sunny weather, southeasterly winds die out in the evening for Marlborough. Light southwest winds tend northerly in the afternoon for Nelson.

Canterbury
Becoming mostly sunny in the morning, south to southwesterly winds dying out in the evening.
High: 16
 
West Coast
Any early cloud clears to sunny weather, light south to southwest winds.
Highs: 16-18
 
Southland & Otago
Any early morning showers clear then cloud breaking to sunny areas, west to southwest winds, breezy about Southland and coastal Otago. Late evening there may be a few further showers for Southland.
Highs: 14-15
