Strong west to northwesterly winds lie over the country today, showers affect western regions at various times. Mainly dry weather out east.

Auckland & Northland
Mostly cloudy, a few morning showers (Northland may remain mostly dry). Northwesterlies change southwest around midday. There could be a sunny spell or two in the afternoon however plenty of cloud still about.

Bay Of Plenty

Morning cloud with the chance of a shower then mostly sunny in the
afternoon, westerlies.
High: 23

Waikato & Central North Island

Cloudy with morning showers, sunny spells increase in the afternoon as
northwesterlies change brisk west to southwest.
Highs: 21-22

Eastern North Island

Thick high cloud in the morning with a spot of rain possible,
northwesterlies build. Becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon with gusty west to
northwest winds.
Highs: 24-26

Western North Island

Morning showers clearing then expect a few sunny spells, brisk to strong
westerly winds.
High: 20

Wellington

Early rain clears then mostly sunny, strong northerlies with a risk of
gales.
High: 19

Nelson

Mostly sunny with breezy north to northwesterly winds.
High: 20

Marlborough

Any early rain clears then mostly sunny with brisk northwesterly
winds.
Highs: 24-25

Canterbury

Sunny with breezy northwesterly winds becoming strong in the afternoon
especially inland.
High: 24

West Coast

Mostly cloudy with brisk westerlies, the odd brief shower at times. Rain
setting in during the evening about South Westland and becoming heavy then
spreading north overnight.
Highs: 15-16

Coastal Otago

Mostly sunny with gusty westerly winds.
High: 19

Central Otago

Sunny with some high cloud, northwesterlies becoming strong around midday.
Brief rain at times west of the Southern Lakes area. Widespread rain develops
overnight.
Highs: 14-15

Southland

Westerlies becoming strong in the morning gusting to gale force at times,
sunny spells and periods of cloud. Chance of a brief shower at times otherwise
dry, rain moves in later in the evening.
High: 15
