A southwest change / frontal system works its way north over the country today, with it brings a drop in temperatures and rain or showers.

Auckland & Northland
Morning sunny spells then cloud increases in the afternoon with the odd shower moving in, westerly winds increase after midday. Overnight a period of rain moves through with a southwest change.
Highs: 18-19

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells and some cloud increasing from afternoon, westerly winds. A
few showers move through overnight with a southwest change.
High: 18

Waikato & Central North Island

Becoming mostly cloudy in the morning with northwesterly winds, the odd
patchy shower moves in from mid to late afternoon. Some brief rain around
midnight as winds change southwest then easing overnight.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, northwesterly winds freshen becoming
strong about the Wairarapa in the afternoon. Later in the evening a southwest
change moves into the Wairarapa bringing showers then overnight further
north.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island

Becoming mostly cloudy in the morning with showers moving in during the
afternoon. Some evening rain as winds change southwest, rain clears
overnight.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington

Cloudy with strong northerlies, possibly gusting to gale force at times
from late morning. The odd shower from afternoon then some brief evening rain as
winds change southerly, rain then clears before midnight with skies clearing
up.
Highs: 16-17

Nelson

Cloudy with increasing northwesterly winds, a few showers move through in
the afternoon then clear in the evening with a southwest change. Clear skies
overnight with southwesterlies easing.
High: 17

Marlborough

Thickening high cloud from morning with gusty northwesterly winds, an
evening southwest change may bring a few showers then clearing otherwise mainly
dry.
Highs: 18-19

Canterbury

High cloud with gusty northwesterly winds, a southwest change moves into
South and Mid Canterbury late morning then into North Canterbury early afternoon
bringing showers. Showers clear by midnight with southwesterlies easing.
Highs: 15-19

West Coast

Rain, heavy with possible thunderstorms about South Westland in the morning
then North Westland afternoon. Rain eases to showers late morning and late
afternoon respectively as a southwest change moves through.
Highs: 15

Coastal Otago

Morning rain eases to showers, gusty southwesterlies develop. Showers ease
afternoon then clear by evening. A few sunny spells may sneak through at times
from afternoon too.
High: 11-12

Central Otago

Morning rain eases to showers which clear afternoon, sunny spells then
develop. Light northerlies change southwest in the morning.
Highs: 10-11

Southland

Morning rain eases to showers as light northerlies change gusty
westerly.
Highs: 9-10
