A low pressure system with cold upper air moves over the North Island today, most places will see rain or shower with thunderstorms possible too. For the South Island a ridge brings clearing weather, showers about Cantebury clear early afternoon and about Marlborough and Nelson in the evening.

Morning showers, possibly heavy then easing in the afternoon as westerlies change southwest. A few sunny spells sneaking through from afternoon too.

Auckland

Morning rain then easing to showers (possibly heavy with thunderstorms)
early afternoon as westerlies change southwest. A few sunny spells possible from
afternoon too.
High: 17-18

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island

Cloudy with morning rain, heavy at times with possible thunderstorms then
easing to showers late afternoon with a southwest change. Showers clearing
around midnight.
Highs: 13-15

Eastern North Island

Areas of cloud with the chance of a shower, rain moves in afternoon with
southwesterly winds freshening. Thunderstorms possible late afternoon and
evening as the wind change moves through Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 16-17

Western North Island

Showers, some heavy with possible thunderstorms (mainly afternoon) with
light northwesterlies changing southwest this afternoon. Showers easing
overnight.
Highs: 14-15

Wellington

Rain with southerly winds, rain clears overnight.
High: 12

Nelson

Periods of cloud with the odd shower, clearing evening. Southerly
winds.
Highs: 14-15

Marlborough

Rain with southerly winds, rain clears in the evening with cloud breaking
up overnight.
High: 13

Canterbury

Sunny spells develop from morning about South Canterbury, rain easing
further north and clearing early afternoon with sunny spells then developing.
Southwesterlies ease.
Highs: 13-14

West Coast

Sunny with light winds, any early cloud clears. There may be a shower or
two that clear in the morning north of Greymouth.
High: 14

Coastal Otago

Sunny with some high cloud, light winds
Highs: 14

Central Otago

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, light winds.
High: 13

Southland

Sunny spells with light northwesterlies.
High: 13
