A low pressure system brings increasingly unsettled weather to the country today, especially western regions.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy spells with the odd shower from morning, more persistent for a time in the afternoon. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-22

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island

Cloud increasing in the morning, showers move in from midday. Northwesterly winds. Showers about the Waikato could become heavy and thundery during the afternoon. East of Lake Taupo conditions may remain mostly dry for the day with
only the risk of a shower from afternoon.
Highs: 16-19

Eastern North Island

Sunny with some high cloud, light winds pick up a little from the northwest
in the afternoon.
Highs: 22-23

Western North Island

Mostly cloudy with northwesterly winds, some light rain moving in during
the afternoon Wanganui southwards then showers from evening a few of which may
be heavy later. Taranaki sees showers from morning with heavy falls at times
evening onwards.
Highs: 17-18

Wellington

Cloudy with breezy northerlies, showers move in late morning or around
midday then clear around midnight.
High: 16

Nelson

Mostly cloudy skies with northerly winds, scattered rain develops in the
afternoon then clears later in the evening. Skies clearing up overnight.
Highs: 16-17

Marlborough

Thick high cloud with breezy northwesterlies, a few spots of rain spreading
from the west during the afternoon then clearing in the evening. High cloud
clears around midnight.
Highs: 19-20

Canterbury

Thick high cloud with morning north to northwesterly winds easing away. A
few spells of rain move through in the afternoon then clear by evening as winds
tend light southwest.
High: 17

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls at times and thunderstorms, northerly winds. Rain
eases late afternoon or evening.
High: 14

Coastal Otago

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower possible this morning, showers more
likely from afternoon as southeasterlies gradually develop.
High: 14

Central Otago

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower about, some rain in the far west of the
district (Southern Lakes area and west of there). Showers becoming more
widespread in the evening, light winds.
High: 12

Southland

Mostly cloudy with the odd brief shower at times, dry periods too. Easterly
winds. Rain moves in during the evening.
High: 12
