Wednesday’s national forecast

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A ridge is keeping the weather still mainly settled over most of the North Island today. Meanwhile a front moves north over the South Island during the day and onto the lower North Island in the evening, this brings the risk of showers or drizzle patches.

Auckland & Northland
Sunny spells and some cloud with light winds in the morning then afternoon sea breezes. Low risk of a late afternoon shower about Northland.
Highs: 23-26

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly sunny weather after morning cloud breaks away, westerly breezes.
Later in the evening or around midnight winds tend southeasterly. The Bay Of
Plenty sees northerlies in the afternoon.
Highs: 23-25

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with light winds and afternoon sea breezes, southerlies
freshen in the evening about the Wairarapa bringing some cloud and the odd
shower. The odd shower then moves further north overnight.
Highs: 24-27

Western North Island

Areas of cloud and a few sunny spells now and then, low risk of the odd
brief spit. Westerly breezes flick round to the southeast in the evening.
Highs: 21-22

Wellington

Sunny spells with brisk northerly winds, a change to brisk southerlies in
the evening brings increasing cloud and the chance of a few showers.
High: 20

Nelson

Sunny with some cloud, northerly breezes. In the evening winds flick around
to the east bringing some cloud and showers which clear at night.
High: 22

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with some high cloud and northwesterly breezes, late afternoon
southerlies freshen bringing some cloud and a few showers which clear at
night.
High: 23-24

Canterbury

Sunny spells at first, southerlies freshening late morning or around midday
bringing increasing cloud and showers especially about the foothills. About the
coast conditions may remain fairly dry, later in the evening some drizzle could
move in however.
High: 17-18

West Coast

Cloudy with showers and westerly winds, showers clear during the evening as
winds change to the southeast.
High: 17-18

Southland & Otago

Showers clearing around midday or early afternoon, sunny spells break
through later in the afternoon. Cool southwesterlies die out at night.
Highs: 14-16
