A low pressure system southeast of the South Island flings a cold southerly blast over the South Island today, this change moves onto the lower North Island later in the evening or overnight.

Northland
Sunny spells with westerly winds, chance of a late evening shower in the west.

Bay Of Islands

Any early showers clear then becoming mostly sunny with westerly winds.
High: 26

Auckland

Areas of cloud and sunny spells at times, westerlies a little breezy in the afternoon. Chance of a late evening shower.

Central North Island, Lake Taupo, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Areas of cloud and sunny spells at times, westerlies a little breezy in the afternoon. Chance of a shower at times about western parts of the Waikato and Central North Island.
Highs: 22-24

Eastern North Island

Sunny with northwesterly breezes and very warm temperatures.
Highs: 27-29

Western North Island

Cloudy spells with brisk westerlies, the odd shower at times too.
Highs: 20-21

Wellington

Mainly sunny with strong northerlies, showers developing in the evening with a southerly change. Showers could be heavy with thunderstorms.

Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, showers develop in the evening possibly heavy with thunderstorms.

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, gusty at times especially afternoon. Winds change southerly in the evening with showers possibly heavy.

Mostly sunny with light winds at first, a brisk southwest change moves through late morning or around midday bringing showers. Showers could be heavy with thunderstorms and hail about inland parts of Mid and North Canterbury. Showers ease in the evening.

Showers, some heavy at times from afternoon. Westerly winds. There could be a few thunderstorms with hail inland behind about Hokitika through to inland Buller. Showers clear about Fiordland and South Westland late afternoon and ease in the evening further north.
