> From the WeatherWatch archives

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

WARM IN THE EAST AND NORTH

A northwesterly airflow lies over the country today ahead of a few fronts to the southwest. Eastern regions warm up as a result with temperatures reaching into the early twenties, perhaps mid twenties if you are lucky.

The upper North Island has warm temperatures also, naturally due to being further north than elsewhere, but winds are also light and there should be sun.

HEAVY RAIN / THUNDER – WEST COAST

A front feeding into South Westland brings heavy rain today, thunder is possible also.

For today’s thunderstorm risk from Metservice please see this page here, today’s weather warnings can be found here.

COLD CHANGE IN THE SOUTH

This evening a cold front moves into the far south bringing rain, expect cold air overnight bringing a chance of snow to about 700m for the ranges of Southland.
