Wednesday’s Headlines (x2): Morning fog, Rain outlook

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today…

MORNING FOG

There was fog for inland parts of the North Island yesterday morning, the same occurs again this morning and another chance exists first thing Thursday.

Chances are not as high for the South Island but inland Buller may see some.

Friday morning the fog risk shifts to the lower South Island.

RAIN OUTLOOK

With a front feeding into South Westland from today then a front starting to sweep down over the North Island and upper South Island from Thursday there will be some rain and possibly heavy rain.

It can be a little hard trying to time rain events down to a T with the type of system coming up but looking at the precipitation percentage of normal map below we can see the top of the South Island and South Westland / Fiordland looks to get a reasonable amount of rain. It’s not to say places like Bay Of Plenty may not get some heavy rain, but in the context of a week long period at this time of year it’s what Bay Of Plenty may normally get.

The map below runs from today through to Wednesday 24th May. Blue colouring means that part of the country is expecting more rainfall than would normally be expected at this time of year, red means less rainfall is expected and white is an average amount of rainfall. The more intense either red or blue then either scenario is more true.
