Wednesday’s Headlines: -5C upper NI this morning & -7C lower SI, Unstable air Far North Fri – Sun

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

HIGH BRINGS SETTLED WEATHER

Not the most exciting action packed weather day today but it’s been nice to have a run of settled weather. There is a few light showers for the North Island in the east and south, perhaps a shower in the far north and for Tasman also.

Elsewhere should see plenty of sun after areas of morning fog or mist clear, fog is expected again overnight especially for the North Island where it could linger for a fair amount of time on Thursday morning before breaking away.

A frosty start this morning for inland areas and the same applies again overnight, especially the inner South Island.

THUNDER POSSIBLE NORTH OF AUCKLAND FRIDAY – SUNDAY

A front moves down from the northwest over the upper North Island on Friday and in behind there is some unstable air, this unstable air lingers on Saturday and maybe again on Sunday. The risk isn’t high but low to moderate.

So this brings the chance of few isolated heavy falls with thunderstorms north of Auckland on Friday, perhaps more just for Northland on Friday then including Auckland more on Saturday / Sunday.

With the front mentioned above there may be some heavy rain as it moves through, more so in areas exposed to the east. Eastern Northland, northern Auckland and Great Barrier Island early on Friday morning then Coromandel and Bay Of Plenty by midday.
