Wednesday’s Headlines: Heavy rain watches issued, Heavy rain this weekend – NI, More fog on the way

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

HEAVY RAIN WATCHES ISSUED – NORTH ISLAND

A front moves into Northland today bringing heavy rain from afternoon. Heavy rain may reach into northern Auckland, Great Barrier Island and Coromandel overnight.

MORE HEAVY RAIN ON THE WAY

Beyond some heavy rain due for parts of the upper North Island today and tomorrow, as we head into the weekend there is some more heavy rain looking possible for the east coast of the North Island. Nelson and Marlborough get in on some heavy rain action this weekend also.

As we can see in the rainfall accumulation maps below, Saturday / Sunday and Monday shows a substantial increase in rain for the northeastern corner of the North Island.

MORE FOG ON THE WAY – FAR SOUTH

With the weather being more settled about the far south of the South Island this also leads to a chance of fog morning and night.

Through to at least Friday fog is possible morning and night.
