An unstable southwesterly airflow lies over the South Island today pushing onto the lower North Island overnight or towards dawn tomorrow morning. Showers, some heavy with thunderstorms and hail are possible in the east of the South Island this evening then towards dawn tomorrow morning about Wellington and the Wairarapa.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy spells with southwesterly breezes, the odd shower possible at times
otherwise dry. Showers more likely overnight especially in the west.

Central North Island, Waikato
& Bay Of Plenty

Some cloud with west to southwest breezes, the odd shower moves into
southern and western parts of the Central North Island overnight. Showers may
move into western Waikato overnight also, perhaps more towards dawn tomorrow
morning.
Tonight’s Lows:9-14

Eastern North Island

Some cloud with sea breezes easing later. Isolated showers, especially
about the ranges with a chance of thunderstorms clearing this evening. Mainly
clear skies overnight with light winds. Towards dawn tomorrow morning strong
southerlies push into Wairarapa with showers, some may be heavy with
thunderstorms and hail.

Western North Island

Areas of cloud increase this evening with the odd shower moving in later or
overnight, especially about Taranaki. West to southwest breezes.

Wellington

Some cloud with northerly breezes. Overnight or more towards dawn tomorrow
morning winds change strong southerly with showers, some may be heavy with
thunderstorms and hail.

Nelson

Mainly clear skies with southwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Low: 12

Marlborough

Some cloud, chance of a heavy isolated shower this evening, mainly in the
south then clearing. Overnight winds change strong southerly with showers
possible, mainly near the coast with a risk of hail and thunderstorms.

Canterbury

Showers, some heavy with thunderstorms and hail moving through South and
Mid Canterbury this evening. Moving into North Canterbury later in the evening.
A cold southwest change follows.

West Coast

Showers ease clearing later this evening, the odd one hangs around north of
Greymouth and about southern Fiordland overnight. Southwesterly breezes.
Tonight’s Lows: 9-10

Coastal Otago

Showers, some heavy and thundery with hail about northern parts of coastal
Otago then easing this evening. The odd shower remains overnight although may
clear north of Dunedin towards dawn. Winds brisk to strong from the
southwest.
Tonight’s Lows: 8-9

Central Otago

Cloudy areas this evening with south to southwest winds easing overnight
and skies then starting to clear up, any remaining showers clear this evening
for central areas but in the east and south the odd shower may hang around and
then clearing overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 7

Southland

Showers with brisk west to southwest winds easing this evening. Showers
easing and clearing overnight or towards dawn tomorrow morning.
Tonight’s Lows: 8-9
