7 degrees is all Kaikoura can muster with a very cold southerly this afternoon.

Other eastern and southern parts of the mainland are struggling to stay in double figures whereas Nelson nudges 20 degrees.

North Islanders aren’t faring high temperatures either but one or 2 are nearing the 20 degree mark. A cold southerly is moving its way up the east of the North Island and the mercury is expected to fall considerably.
