With so many new readers to WeatherWatch.co.nz in the past few days we thought we’d update you again on our latest big news – that we’re extending our forecasts nationwide! Many new visitors to the site have asked why they can only find an Auckland forecast – well, later this year you’ll be able to find the forecast for anywhere in New Zealand!
Earlier press release:
July 26, 2011:
Its been a while coming but this afternoon WeatherWatch.co.nz announced via it’s Facebook page that today the company reached an agreement with an independent weather forecaster to extend forecasts to 18 other main centres across New Zealand.
Since WeatherWatch.co.nz started in 2005 it has mostly provided detailed forecasts for Auckland only.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says the deal has taken a long time to reach with the weather news authority seeking out a reliable yet cost effective and accurate organisation to partner with.
Details about the new partnership are still under wraps for commercial reasons but the new forecasts are expected to be operational some time late in spring.
More details, including which centres will be covered, will be announced in the next couple of months.
WeatherWatch.co.nz forecasters say the partnership is exciting and will give more balanced weather coverage for New Zealanders.

Bring it on. I would hope that you’d do better than Metservice. Invercargill has the snow icon with ‘sleet’ showers. NO sleet yesterday or today and as happens a lot lately, the local, short and regional forecasts appear to differ.

Well… that is great news.. Its means that you all have long last up there been listening to us asking and asking. It would be great if you could not just the main centres but some of the other cities ie. Wangarei, Palmerston North, Queenstown, Invercargil.. places that are not just in the met service ones – because we are your voice and eyes too. Thumbs up.

I have found myself clicking to your web page more regularly than to met service as your reports are more accurate for our area. Were in the Motueka Valley and our weather system differs greatly from Nelson… and even from Motueka itself! Sometimes its hard to determine whats gonna happen in the valley but you guys tend to get it on the mark. It seems to be a combination of weather in Nelson, Motueka, and Westport, with the temps of Rainbow ski feilds! haha.
I have even managed to convert my partner… who is a regular checker of weather reports (and usually turns to Metservice)!
Good going!

Would be great if you could include Te Anau since other forecasts often aren’t quite right

I’d be happy to see some results from Balclutha – perhaps a weather station set up at the school(s) or aerodrome would be great!!! I’m tired of having to look at rural towns on the Metservice site to find a pretty inaccurate description of my local weather!
