WeatherWatch.co.nz says “thank you” to MetService

> From the WeatherWatch archives

WeatherWatch.co.nz is this afternoon saying thank you to MetService’s severe forecast team for their early and accurate warning of this week’s severe snow storm.

The weather news website says the state owned forecaster first alerted New Zealand to the cold snap a week ago – and, overall, their prediction was very accurate.

“It’s always tricky predicting a storm well in advance but their warnings were bang on – and for that we thank them” said WeatherWatch.co.nz’s head weather analyst Philip Duncan.

MetService first alerted the public to the storm a week ago.

“I realise we don’t always see eye to eye but credit where credit’s due” said Mr Duncan “They nailed this one from a warning perspective”.

Forecasters from both WeatherWatch.co.nz and MetService have worked through several long days as the storm developed over the weekend and still remains in some eastern areas this afternoon, although it has significantly eased today.

“I’m sure there will be many forecasters getting a much better nights sleep tonight” he said.

Good on all of you with the forecasts but I see you keep talking about MetOffice on here and on your facebook page. Perhaps you should focus on what you do best and not worry about the others? You’ve got a great site and I hope you keep going from strength to strength and look forward to your forecasts 🙂

Thanks for the comment TP – and we agree with you.  With so many readers using both MS and WW it’s inevitable that we’ll mention them from time to time, but appreciate lately it’s been more than normal – as a result of the severe weather.  But we did feel the need to go out of way to thank them for their hard work here.  Hopefully you won’t be hearing much more for a while!

Good on you for giving credit where credit is due.
However, you also need a pat on the back for your great work over the past week.

Thanks for keeping everyone up to date, very much appreciated.
