A cold front is approaching the South Island with heavy rain as winds switch from sub-tropical northerlies to Southern Ocean sou’westers.

This front moves into the North Island on Wednesday and falls apart.

On Thursday many regions are dry but another front approaches the West Coast ahead of a low that forms over New Zealand for Friday and Saturday.
