Weather Video: Southerlies ease this weekend

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The colder southerly flow continues this week but as we head into the weekend an incoming high pressure system will calm things down.

The high rolls in on Sunday for the South Island then the North Island later in the day and into Monday.

By Tuesday rain is expected for western areas and in the north with WeatherWatch.co.nz saying Northland may not be so exposed to rain this time around – but still one to watch.

what happened to your prediciton of a wet cloudy 3 weeks in july?

WW Forecast Team on 23/07/2014 8:43pm

Good morning Pete,

We never talked of 3 cloudy weeks we talked of 3 unsettled weeks without one big national high pressure system.  Unsettled weather is often mistaken for cloudy and wet – but ‘unsettled’ simply means it’s changing constantly, wind, rain, showers, sun, calm it’s all in the mix and every day varies across the country from region to region – which we have certainly had for the first 24 days of July!  The one thing we did get wrong is that we thought the first NZ-wide hiigh would arrive June 21/22, instead it will be this Sun/Mon by the looks of things.

Cheers
Phil
