In our first forecast video for the year, we take a look at the sub-tropical airflow that is returning to the country and creating a mix of patchy rain, drizzle, and heavy afternoon downpours with thunder.
The first two days of the working week do see wet weather hugging the North Island, especially inland.
By Wednesday, the North Island is mostly dry and a few isolated downpours will remain around the South Island.
Later this week and into the weekend, high pressure dominates but we’re still going to see random afternoon downpours through both islands inland.
