Cyclone Lusi continues to slide south towards New Zealand bringing severe gales and heavy rain.
The low will track down the western side of NZ then cross over the South Island on Sunday night – before leaving the nation on Monday morning.
Severe weather may affect a number of regions, so please check with MetService for the latest warnings & watches – and WeatherWatch.co.nz for special weather news updates across the weekend.
For farmers wanting rain Lusi should deliver a soaking to a number of regions – but some may miss out due to the changing wind flow.

There is a beautiful Halo around the moon which means a storm is nearby.

Hi Team,
I was just watcing 1 news and the Coromandel Peninsula was not
memtioned in any of the warnings. Does this mean we are out of
the danger zone?
Thankyou and keep up the awesome work.

Mostly below the warning threshold probably although we think western Coromandel Peninsula could be in for isolated wind gusts above 140km/h – our confidence is moderate to high.
Cheers, and thanks!

Wow, this is the best weather presenter we have ever seen!
Phillip Duncan should be on TV, he kicks butt on the lame presenters that currently grace our screens in NZ.
We want to see him on TV every night, he knows his stuff, no hesitations, no making up lame jokes (thanks JH) and just a fantastic confident presenter with interesting information and brilliant presentation.

That pretty green blingy map free off the interwebz – what does it actually show? What is the meteorological model data, the resolution, the fields? What use is it apart from showing a vague acid trip image of the potential path of Lusi? 😉
