Weather headlines (x3) this weekend: Mainly settled this weekend, Some morning mist or fog, Weather on Sunday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Here’s what is making the weather headlines this weekend.

WEEKEND IS MAINLY SETTLED

Thankfully this weekend is mainly settled thanks to a high pressure system covering the country. Yes there will be a few isolated showers about for some, but overall more settled than the start of the week, that’s for sure.

A couple of afternoon showers will develop in the upper North Island (inland Waikato, for example).

A front does move onto the lower South Island on Sunday bringing rain to Fiordland and perhaps Southland, warm in the east on Sunday.

A FEW MORNING MIST OR FOG PATCHES

With the high lying over New Zealand this weekend plus clear skies, morning mist or fog patches are possible for some, mainly about inland areas / valleys / basins.

WEATHER ON SUNDAY

High pressure covers most of New Zealand still on Sunday however we do have a front moving onto the lower South Island from afternoon.

North Island

A few morning mist or fog patches then mostly sunny, some afternoon cloud about inland hills / ranges may bring an isolated shower. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.

South Island

Some cloud in the west with a few showers, rain moves into Fiordland around midday then easing in the evening. Dry for Southland at first then afternoon rain with winds changing southwest, rain clears evening. Elsewhere for the South Island is mostly sunny but expect some high cloud, very warm afternoon temperatures in the east. Winds mostly from the northwest however along the eastern coastal fringe winds could tend east to northeast. During the course of the evening southerly winds push up the east coast bringing some cloud.
