> From the WeatherWatch archives

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today…

TEMPERATURES DROP

Rain is moving northwards over the South Island today, we know that much. Rain may also be heavy for inland areas as this rain band moves northwards.

What will also occur naturally is a drop in temperatures, the eastern South Island yesterday saw highs reaching into the late twenties, even early thirties in some spots. Today we are talking about highs in the mid teens which is a drop of around 15 degrees.

REGIONS OF INSTABILITY

The upper South Island may have some instability this afternoon then on the upper North Island on Thursday. Instability means there is a chance of heavy showers and possible thunderstorms.

For today and tomorrow’s thunderstorm chances check out the risk assessment from Metservice here.

RAIN EASTERN NORTH ISLAND

Rain for the eastern North Island sets in from Thursday, later on Friday into Saturday morning rain may be heavy especially about Hawkes Bay. This is not the best news considering the state of the region at the moment.
