Weather headlines (x3) for Thursday: Wet day in the north, Warm in the far south and north, Unstable this afternoon – South Island

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.

WET DAY IN THE NORTH

Much of the North Island will see rain or showers today and more importantly eastern regions should benefit from some of this rain before backing off later this evening or overnight.

5 to 10mm may fall, not heaps but certainly welcome. The good news is there should be more rain on the way this weekend and into early next week.

WARMEST TODAY IN THE FAR SOUTH AND FAR NORTH

Highs will likely climb in to the mid to late twenties today about Southland and Central Otago, also Auckland and Northland.

UNSTABLE THIS AFTERNOON – INNER SOUTH ISLAND

Some instability should develop about inland parts of the South Island today leading to a few heavy isolated showers and perhaps some thunder this afternoon / early evening, this is going to be more likely about the Main Divide and just west of there.
