Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.
UNSTABLE THIS AFTERNOON – WESTERN NORTH ISLAND
Some instability for the western North Island this afternoon running from Waikato down through to Taranaki. This instability is aided by converging winds at the surface, reasonable surface moisture and cool upper air.
Isolated heavy falls may develop in the above areas, perhaps a thunderstorm then easing overnight.
More on today’s thunderstorm risk here.
NICE WEATHER FOR THE WEST COAST
The best weather today is along the West Coast south of Greymouth, parts of Southland and Central Otago have a very nice day too. Temperatures for parts of the West Coast may reach up to 17 or 18 degrees.
LOW PASSES TO THE NORTHEAST ON SATURDAY
One of the main features to pass by New Zealand soon is a deep low on Saturday, it lies to the northeast of the North Island, moving in a southeasterly direction during the day. At this stage we shouldn’t be affected however there could be reasonable swells pumping in to the North Island in the northeast as it passes by.
