Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.
SOME HEAVY RAIN IN THE WEST – NORTH ISLAND
A front moving in from the Tasman Sea this afternoon and evening is still forecast to bring rain to much of the North Island and there may be a few heavy falls in the west.
While rain spreads over the upper South Island this afternoon and evening also, it will not be as bad as the recent rain we had for Nelson and Marlborough.

HEAVY RAIN WESTERN NORTH ISLAND ON FRIDAY
An area of low pressure brings rain to the western North Island on Friday Waikato southwards, this rain may be heavy then easing in the evening to showers.
Rain for Wellington and Wairarapa spreads into Hawkes Bay during the afternoon then reaches Gisborne in the evening as southwesterlies freshen.
FROSTY IN THE SOUTH TODAY AND TOMORROW
Skies are clear enough for Southland and Otago this morning and again tomorrow morning for there to be a risk of frosts.
It won’t be super cold but -2 to -3 at the coldest point is possible.
