Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.
CHRISTMAS DAY
Looking dry for most of New Zealand on Christmas Day, warm too especially in the east. The West Coast and Southland sees showers or some rain though in a developing northerly airflow, perhaps Otago may get a few spits.
WEATHER ON SUNDAY
A southerly airflow spreads up the east coast of the South island during the day meanwhile the North Island has weak low pressure and unstable skies.
North Island
Partly cloudy skies for all, some morning rain and showers in the west, south of Auckland through to about Taranaki, a few spits or showers in the east. During the afternoon expect showers for most, showers about the upper North Island becoming heavy in the afternoon with thunderstorms then easing at night.
South Island
Cloudy in the east with showers and southerly winds, the upper South Island is dry in the morning then showers develop afternoon. The West Coast has some sun, showers develop in the afternoon about the ranges, some may be heavy with thunderstorms then easing at night, light onshore winds tend south to southeast in the evening.
