Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.
MAINLY SETTLED TODAY – CHANCE OF INSTABILITY NORTH ISLAND
A ridge of high pressure extending out from an anticyclone centred to the southeast of the country brings mainly settled weather today.
There is a small chance of an unstable shower or two about the Waikato this afternoon thanks to warm temperatures at the surface, good moisture and converging winds.
AVERAGE TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGE RAINFALL COMING
Most regions around New Zealand are looking to see showers or some scattered rain at times over the coming seven days (through to 21st November). This leads to an average rainfall outlook for most of the country.
Most of the showers between now and Thursday are of the convective variety so they can be hit and miss. On Friday a fronts pushes in from the Tasman Sea bringing some slightly more widespread rain to western regions. Saturday sees some rain or showers for the western North Island, dry in the east meanwhile the South Island gets most of its shower activity from convection once again.
Sunday returns to showers or some rain in the west, mainly dry in the east apart from inland convective showers again about the eastern South Island, along the Canterbury foothills for example.
TUESDAY – WARMEST DAY THIS WEEK
Highs around New Zealand on Tuesday are likely to be the warmest all week ranging between the early to mid twenties. Some places may crack into the late twenties, inland Taranaki for example.
