> From the WeatherWatch archives

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.

HEAVY RAIN WEST COAST

A cold front starts moving into South Westland from this afternoon then moving northwards this evening and overnight, expect rain with the front with heavy falls. Overnight rain starts to ease from the south once the front has moved through.

Metservice has a few rain warnings out, please check them out here.

There may be strong northerly quarter winds associated with the front mentioned above, once again Metservice has a few watches and warnings on this at the link above.

WARM IN THE EAST

Thanks to the northerly airflow over New Zealand temperatures in the east are warm today, getting into the early twenties.

High’s in the late teens for the upper North Island.

DRY IN THE EAST COMING UP – SOUTH ISLAND

The south, east and north of the South Island has plenty of dry weather coming up, the West Coast south of Greymouth has an average amount of rainfall expected through to the 17th October. We can attribute the West Coast having average rainfall thanks to a cold front moving through from this afternoon through to tomorrow morning.

The North Island has mostly average rainfall expected through to the 17th October however the Wellington and Wairarapa regions may be drier than normal. A period of east to southeasterly winds around the 12th – 14th October brings showers to the North Island keeping conditions topped up there.
