Weather headlines (x3) for Friday: Tropical in the north, Northeasterly airflow to ease, Unstable this weekend

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.

TROPICAL IN THE NORTH

A northeasterly airflow tends to the north this morning about Northland then this afternoon for Auckland, temperatures will be quite warm reaching into the mid twenties and the humidty will be quite high with a tropical feel to the air quite likely.

While showers are likely today for the upper North Island, showers from this morning for Northland, Auckland this afternoon and perhaps even into Waikato this evening may become heavy with a thunderstorm or two then easing tonight.

NORTHEASTERLY AIRFLOW TO EVENTUALLY EASE

The northeasterly airflow over New Zealand is quite blustery still but it will gradually ease as the day moves along, especially later today. Metservice have a few watches out regarding this wind which you can see here.

UNSTABLE THIS WEEKEND

There will likely be some instability i.e. thunderstorms and downpours about this weekend. Metservice will likely give more exact details as we move along, you can check out their thunderstorm watch here.
