Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.
HEAVY RAIN WEST COAST
Expect some heavy rain for the West Coast today and tomorrow, winds will be from the north tending a little more to the northwest later on Saturday. Late Saturday afternoon into the evening there could be a few thunderstorms also before rain eases overnight.
WARM TEMPERATURES – INCREASED HUMIDITY ON SATURDAY
Temperatures in the east of the country and for much of the North Island are warm today and tomorrow, highs will likely get into the early twenties for many. High’s into the mid twenties are likely for eastern spots on Saturday with the eastern North Island possibly getting into the late twenties.
Also on Saturday expect humidity to increase for the upper North Island, dew points on Friday are likely to be around 10 to 14 degrees celsius then increasing to 16 to 18 degrees on Saturday.
The dew point is a measure of humidity, between 1 and 5 degrees the air is quite dry, 5 to 10 is fairly average, 10 to 15 is starting to get a little more humid then 15 to 20 is getting quite muggy. 20 degree dew points are actually quite tropical.
HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE ON SUNDAY – NORTH ISLAND
A front is still forecast to cross over the North Island on Sunday, starting at in the west early on in the day (overnight Saturday) then slowly moving eastwards.
This front taps into sub tropical moisture to the north so heavy falls may be possible.
