Severe nor’ west wind gusts were recorded in Middlemarch, Otago late yesterday and resulted in some reports of damage.

Iron from several buildings were lifted as the winds roared through the town, most notably the Hyde Community Hall.

Winds peaked above 100hph over Northern Southland where143kmh was picked up and Middlemarch clocked in with 76kmh, but some gusts blasted through over 140kmh over the Rock and Pillar Range.
Wanaka recorded 78kmh and Gore 76kmh.

Cooler southerlies have now started to move into the southern region.

Showery conditions are still remaining over parts of Queensland after a recent very wet spell clings on over some parts of the state.

Further rain is likely today over much of Fiji which could result in surface flooding.

It leaves me wondering – how fast is “100 hph”? 🙂

The wind was pretty intense in Rolleston last night…with torrential rain in spurts too.
