Last night’s wild weather caused a number of power outages across Canterbury.
Orion chief executive Roger Sutton says the big storm saw a lot of trees fall across power lines in rural areas.
He says customers in Christchurch’s eastern suburbs also had a few issues with overloading.
“People turned a lot of stuff on and overloaded generators so most of those things we got back on. By the time we’d restarted the generators people had gone to bed and turned things off. This is going to be an issue for us until we’ve made more repairs – overloading, especially in that urban network where we’ve got a lot of cable faults,” he says.
Mr Sutton says there was also a wide outage in Hororata from around seven and a few people will be waking this morning with no power
