Reports are coming in of snow falling to low levels over parts of the Canterbury Plains this morning.
Snow is falling in Darfield and Methven and also over parts of Banks Peninsula. Alpine passes in the south have also seen snow settle in.
A small tornado and lightning has apparently damaged two buildings on the West Coast town of Hector according to Facebook reader Roger Harper. It occurred about 1am this morning.

Hi Phil ,its very windy here in Levin and we have just had a sqally rain shower with more looking to come in. Having to put the washing out in small breaks, its like living in wellington haha
