Warm for many but the deep south

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Temperatures across New Zealand are fairly high this morning with many places already in the 18 to 20 degree range from Whangarei to Christchurch.

Warmest centres are along the east coast where fairly strong winds are adding to the warmth.

The windiest centre is Wellington with northerly gusts to 70km/h in the city.

In the South Island the temperatures drops quickly south of Canterbury.   Dunedin has 12 degrees as does Invercargill while other Southland and Central Otago areas are on just 11.
