nzherald.co.nz and head weather analyst Philip Duncan team up to bring you the latest weekend forecast in today’s weather video. Firstly we cover the cold air and where it’s moving (away from us!). At the same time a sub-tropical low is pushing gloomy cold weather over the upper North Island today.
The weekend looks generally settled with conditions easing across southern and eastern parts of New Zealand as a narrow high moves in – ahead of the next front arriving late Sunday/Monday.
We also look at the marine forecast around New Zealand for Saturday in a new regular Friday feature.

Snow level is rising this evening – although a new burst of showers could see some brief sleet or hail – and possibly an isolated snow flurry to low levels.
Next week looks much warmer for NZ so the next risk may not be until the end of this month or July. Will let you know if that changes though!

Hi Chris – we see heavy showers moving in for the evening and some isolated hail – nothing to indicate any significant thunder activity though – an isolated rumble is possible but nothing widespread.
Cheers
