VIDEO: Spring winds continue for NZ + Typhoon Kong-Rey for Taiwan

Windy weather will surge off and on for NZ over the next several days with windiest weather in central and southern parts of the country. A few cold fronts are coming in – with the bulk of the wet weather for the West Coast, Southland and parts of Otago – then some rain and showers into the western North Island. Lower totals for the North Island and driest in the east of both islands with all those westerlies. High pressure briefly calms things on Sunday – ahead of severe gales possible in the lower South Island on Monday next week due to a major storm over the Southern Ocean.

TYPHOON KONG-REY
A major typhoon is approaching Taiwan and will make landfall there later on Thursday in a direct hit.

At its peak Kong-Rey will have sustained winds of 250kmh, gusting 305kmh. It is currently producing waves at sea as high as 14 metres. We have a quick update on the typhoon’s pat
