Cyclone Dovi (ex-tropical) will be moving in across the North Island on Sunday bringing severe weather into both main islands of New Zealand.
In this special Saturday update we track – in detail – the rain and wind, plus we also take a look at the difficulties of forecasting a storm that is literally changing structure as it moves in. WeatherWatch.co.nz / RuralWeather.co.nz.

Hi Phil, winds just now came out of nowhere , easterlies , very odd considering all day here in Levin very calm until now . Its 9.35pm so expecting it to get much worse, weve had rain but very little compared to what was forecasted by one news. Stay safe my friend regards Phil , now its raining lol

Thanks Duncan,
You always do an amazing job of explaining weather events .
I really wish you were better funded for this than what the govt funded weather forecasters provide as you offer so much more, and I find you are much more accurate, or at least explain why things might be so localised.
Keep up the great the work!

Always a reliable source and crucial for safety as you have a different way of explaining.

Expertly done as usual Phil, you really allow us to make sense of what is occurring with this ex-cyclone.
Thanks for you time in presenting this.
