VIDEO: Southern Ocean storm to alter NZ’s weather for a week

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Special detailed update — A storm is south of New Zealand but not everyone has bad weather this week, in fact some have more sun, dry and warmth while others have heavy rain and gales.

The storm will mostly impact the West Coast with rainfall totals of at least half a metre in some areas. The eastern South Island, lower North Island and Cook Strait areas will also be affected by gales, possibly severe gale on Tuesday and will surge off and on across the week (mainly below problematic levels hopefully).

The north of NZ and east of the North Island will enjoy sub-tropical airflows at times, a little bit of wet weather with plenty of warm, dry, spells in the mix. Winds are lighter the further north you head. We break down who has severe weather and who misses out…
