VIDEO: Southern Ocean is stormier than normal, but some warmer weather returning to NZ

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Sub-tropical winds and nor’westers will see many places bouncing back to warmer than average after a stormy, cold, first half of this week.

Friday and Saturday look mild in a number of regions. However the Southern Ocean is especially stormy right now, more like mid-winter than Autumn.

It’s encouraging typical autumn like westerlies, but also frequent southerlies.

There are at least 3 significant storms in the Southern Ocean in the next 10 days alone – but also more high pressure to NZ’s north keeping some protection over northern regions.

Thank you. The most comprehensive forecast I have seen. Normally watch Metservice. Really good. We are still looking and hoping for a bit more rain here in West Auckland. Kind regards. Graeme.
