Video: Significant storm to brush lower South Island

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Philip Duncan and nzherald.co.nz bring you the latest on the storm that is rapidly developing in the Southern Ocean today – and will become a weather bomb overnight (dropping over 24hPa in 24 hours).

WeatherWatch.co.nz says damaging winds up to hurricane force are expected in some parts of the South Island and lower North Island over the next 24 to 36 hours.

5:40pm update – Please note – since this video was recorded late this morning we have changed our forecast for Wellington which limits the southerlies and increases the westerlies.  Southerlies more likely on Thursday.

Please refer to MetService for latest warnings.
