Strong to damaging wind gusts are coming to NZ over the days ahead – and into next week too – as spring and El Nino combine to make for a more unsettled spring pattern.
Saturday will see a surge of winds over 100km/h moving up to Auckland and Northland, while Monday sees another surge of southerlies out of the Southern Ocean.
High pressure remains over central Australia and to the east – but windy weather is affecting Tasmania and southern Western Australia.
We also explain why El Nino (“El-Neen-yo”) can mean a cooler, wetter, spring for some parts of western NZ.

I’m over this bad weather. When is it going to get better. All we are getting is constant rain and wind.

Hi Millsy, you’ll be waiting another couple months yet. Sep/Oct are traditionally two of the most unsettled months of the year, Nov usually gets more into a steady westerly flow.
Cheers
