Mild airflows around parts of NZ will disappear over the coming days as a southerly moves up the South Island, but a low pressure zone in eastern Australia will drift towards NZ’s North Island this Friday and weekend bringing rain and strong to possibly gale nor’easters for a time.
The low will then stall and fall apart over Sunday and Monday. It’s not an overly aggressive low but with high pressure from south of Australia and the South Island blocking it’s movement it may enhance the winds a bit more and help lift up the rainfall totals.
The bulk of Australia’s rain is in the east and then also out over to WA in the desert.

Just want to say I watch these updates daily and think they’re great, but I think whoever provides you with the rainfall total maps needs to tweak the blue for the 0.1 – 2mm range as it is nearly identical to the blue for the 60 – 70 and 70 – 80mm range. It sometimes gets a bit confusing at first glance 🙂
